Wall Mounting Your Flat Screen Plasma or LCD TV

So, you have bought a new, flat screen LCD or Plasma TV. Congrats. You have probably got a perfect wall all picked out to mount it on in your bedroom that is sure to become your oasis. There is only one question remaining - How to wall mount your flat screen TV?

The very first thing you must think about is whether you are planning to do it on your own or hire an expert. If you are unsure of any of the following, you will be better off hiring a professional to do the job. However, if you would like to get your hands a little dirty and probably make a few miscalculations or mistakes just to have a sense of achievement, you should definitely read on.

After you've picked the wall and reserved a few hours to get this job done, you should figure out if the wall is an interior or exterior wall. Although it is not always the case, walls on the interior are usually less trouble than their exterior counterparts.

Of course, we are assuming you have already made certain that your flat screen TV can be wall mounted, right? In the event you haven't done this yet, you shouldn't worry too much. While many flat screens that are available now are in fact mountable, there are some early models that were not. Check the box. Can you see the words “VESA Compatible” or some variation of that? If it's there, then you are in luck, and you can proceed. Because you have done some homework and picked the right wall bracket for your display, we can go right to the enjoyable part - tools. If you've got basic tools in your tool box, such as a tape measure, drill, and a screw driver, you'll be good to go. It is also a good idea to have a stud finder so that you don't wind up mounting your new flat screen in only drywall.

Once you've got an idea of where you would like the new flat screen, check for wall studs and make some modifications to your placement. do not forget to make sure you are nearby an outlet or you will just have a useless screen on your wall. Once you've found a stud, you can go ahead and attach the wall brackets to the back of the television. Take care of this before attaching the TV mount on the wall so that you know about any adjustments that need to be made to the ultimate mount placement.

Once adjustments are made, make a mark where the anchor bolts are going to be put in and pre-drill the holes, as they are often hard to start. Also, go ahead and cut out a space for cabling at the time you put in the anchors and then you can run the cables. Be sure that the wall mount is leveled and sink the anchors. After the TV brackets and wall mount are attached, ask a friend for a little help lifting the television on wall. You really shouldn't attempt to do this yourself as flat screens can be fairly awkward and heavy if they're lifted by one person.

Now for the very best part - kick back with a cold drink and watch the big game on your brand new wall mounted LCD or Plasma TV.
